Hello world! ( My FIRST ENTRY)

I love words.

Words are powerful.

I became addicted to reading at a young age. The thrill of a fairytale, the hug of a Judy Blume book. The love of a new Golden Book.

Books saved me in my teen years, more than any other time in my life. To be seen in a book was important. To read classical literature was a balm. The language was pure zen.

I have passed on my joy of books to many teens and children that I have mentored. I have also passed on the love of reading to my children and grandson.

I received the name ‘The Book Hippie’ from a little girl who gave me a few weeds as a present when she “caught” me filling a Little Free Library one day. “You’re the Book Hippie that fills the library, and I caught you!!! ” she said “Here’s some flowers, they’re really weeds, but you can pretend they are flowers.”

The name stuck. I am constantly reading, rescuing and donating books.

I volunteer full-time and a lot of my time is spent reading with kids and mentoring teens and providing them books to keep, and security in being heard and seen.

Come along on my book journey: see what I am reading, where my books are going and what it’s like to be a full-time volunteer and mentor through a love of books.

Reading is essential. Books are the life blood of that. Peace.
