A to Z Classics UPDATE

Classics A-Z: My List

A-Aesop’s Fables: I enjoyed these very much!
B-The Bostonians by James Joyce : Planning on this fall.
C-The Nun of Muranco by Casanova : THIS was a shocking read. I knew nothing of Casanova and I had NO CLUE this was a real person! I now will be looking to read more about him and his life: find out where the saying of “He’s a Casanova” comes from.
D-The Complete English Poems by Donne: I enjoyed these poems very much. Very enjoyable read.
E-Middlemarch by Eliot: Thinking of summer for this.
F-Frost (The Everyman’s Library): I so did NOT like Frost. It just did not move me in any way. I could blearily make it through! This was a bit unexpected for me.
G-Grimms Fairytales by The Brothers Grimm: Oh how I loved these tales! So much fun. The darkness of them made them delicious reads.
H-The Scarlet Letter by Hawthorne (reread): I read this from a different perspective this time. On whether this is a feminist read. Very enlightening once again. MY THOUGHTS
I-The Age Of Innocence by Wharton : Summer reading plans..
J-Tales Of Henry James: Currently reading.
K-Critique of Pure Reason by Kant: Fall read plan.
L-Lady Chatterley’s Lover by DH Lawrence: I just finished this and am still wrapping my brain around everything I read. To be blogged about soon. What a journey that was.
M-My Antonia by Cather: Summer planned reading.
N-Lolita by Nabokov: So……this is like watching a train wreck and you can not stop. It’s very well written and the insight is interesting and oh so disturbing. Not sure on all my thoughts on this. Thus I have not written about it yet…..
O-Othello by Shakespeare: I am currently buddy reading this with my Shakespeare group and thoroughly enjoying it.
P-Phantom of the Opera (reread): ACK I love this story so. CRY every single time. Just hits me in the feels. Beautiful.
Q-Don Quixote by Cervantes (reread): I saw this opera many years ago. The rape bothered me on the stage. That being said I preferred the Opera to the book and that almost never happens. Still a good story. Many moral things to discuss with this one.
R-Red Badge of Courage by Crane: Thinking September for this one.
S-Sound and Fury by Faulkner: This book was interesting for me. IT is difficult to read, the premise and prose are difficult, it takes a bit to get into it. I’m quite glad I decided to read this in small bits of time daily, I don’t think I would have read it otherwise. I would say for an English major this would be a must read. I’m still not sure how I feel about this one. Letting it sit.
T-Tess of the D’Ubervilles by Hardy: Summer plans.
U-Ulysses by James Joyce: Fall plans.
V-The Violet Fairy Book by Lang: This was so much fun. I have enjoyed all these fairytales I have read. Very good for the soul.
W-War and Peace by Tolstoy: I absolutely LOVED this experience. What a book. I highly recommend trying to read it.
X- Great eXpectations by Dickens: Fall plans.
Y-Revolutionary Road by Yates: Summer plans.
Z-Collected Writings of Zelda Fitzgerald: December plan.

I will absolutely be doing this again in 2019. It has reawakened my LOVE of classical literature. It has made me stretch my mind and been so essential to growth for me this year so far to date. I highly suggest reading at least one classic novel.  Especially if you love language and words as I do.

Peace.
