Honestly at times I did not think I would finish. Especially whilst trudging through Middlemarch and eventually just BAILING on it.  I did, however, find some new all time favorites. I also, unfortunately found some new NO THANK YOU reads. All in all the flow of classical literature remains a favorite of mine. The language and writing style of the classics is a zen perfection for my very soul. I learned so much this year about what I like to read, about myself, language, cultures and how I feel about literature. Definitely a grand adventure. I look forward to 2019 and Children’s Classics.

OYE VEY

Middlemarch, Lolita, Sound and Fury, Frost, Red Badge of Courage…….all NOT for me. Someone else can love them.

TOP PICKS

  • War and Peace: just stunning, gorgeous, it changed me.
  • Phantom of the Opera: a reread, but so much more beautiful this time.
  • The Scarlet Letter: another reread for the umpteenth time, always a favorite, but trying to view it in feminist form was just a joy!
  • My Antonia: I had no idea this would be such a lyrical beauty to read.
  •  Grimms Fairy Tales: Reading these an adult I think I caught so much more. Absolute brillance. Storytelling at it’s best.
  • Lady Chatterly’s Lover: I had no idea that this one would resonate so much. It is quite a masterpiece of emotions. Freedom for women to be able to be in charge of their lives in and outside of the bedroom. Brilliant writing.
