‘Only they’re on the other side of the fence….’

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne. I read this book when it first came out in 2006. Told from a child’s perspective using a child’s pronunciation and words makes this an extremely powerful read. I did also see the movie, and although it is good, you do not get the same experience and feeling as reading the actual words of this child. The book has been released again as of last week in a Deluxe Illustrated Edition and is illustrated by  Oliver Jeffers. The illustrations are stunning. Making this read even more intense. I believe this should be required reading with discussion for all fifth to seventh graders. The book, however, can be read by anyone that age and above. I very much enjoyed reading it a second time, it left the same sorrow in my heart. Necessary read.
