What is a Baggie Book??
A Baggie Book is a simple book a child takes home to read to his parent or any adult and then returns to school and reads it to a volunteer to promote reading fluency and understanding and comprehension.
I have volunteered for many years at many different local public schools with the Baggy Book program. It takes about 70-90 minutes per classroom. So from a volunteer point of view it is a short amount of time that you can weekly give and make a HUGE difference. Check with your local elementary school to find out if this is an avenue you’d like to pursue. I have personally received from these children far more than I ever gave. The sheer joy of figuring out words in the eyes of a child is enough zen to last a long time. A little light in what is sometimes a dark hate filled world.
I had the privilege Friday morning to do this with some amazing children, who heard of my fear of snakes took this lovely out to read with me. This makes them all giggle so…….
