Ellen Hopkins

Ellen Hopkins is a favorite author of my daughters and mine. When my daughter was in high school, we would read through these books quickly, in a day or two.
WECOULDNOTPUTHTHEMDOWN.
We even had our favorite English teacher addicted right along with us.  We would quickly go through conferences so we could discuss the current book. (No worries my daughter was on the deans list not much-needed to be discussed, we were really there to give the teacher chocolate and discuss books.) It was so much fun. Although the books are darker and about serious issues, they are real, true to life, and the characters are just like the kids in class next to you. There is always a HUGE plot twist where you end up screaming, she gets you every single time! The endings always leave you hanging, and you think about the characters long after you have read about  them. It also gives you insight and empathy to kids you may not think about on a regular basis. How it is to be them.

So when I was offered to read her not yet released book due out in January called The You I’ve Never Known I jumped at the chance and quickly downloaded it to my ibooks and read it voraciously in 20 hours time until it was done. Now I miss it. I quickly called my daughter to tell her about it and can’t wait for her to read it so we can discuss it. Also, we must find that English teacher and send her a copy. Bonding over books is so much fun, it’s a unique thing that I treasure very much.

Book on.

Peace.
