The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane

I have never read Lisa See before. I have had interest, but then another book caught my eye, or I was reading too much for book club, or my library stack was too high!! HOWEVER…. Jellybooks sent this as an option to pre-read. The book comes out March 2017. It sounded so interesting that I grabbed it up on ibooks to read it. It was fantastic!! The history of China and the differing nationalities and tribes and cultures with in the country were fascinating to me. The process of tea making and growing and selling was very interesting as well. I love history, so for me this type of book is a pleasure to read. I have a good friend who lived in Taiwan for a good many years and I was reminded of her stories so very often. She, as well as in the book, experienced adoption and the culture there and then in America. I will certainly be buying her a copy. The story in this book is also very good, a wonderful tale of generations of women.

Incidentally, a while back, with this same friend, we listened to the history of tea on a car ride to Chinatown. We were in Chinatown to have Dim Sum and visit the shops while dropping her son off to the train to head back to college. It was so much fun to hear the language and see her and her son interact with the people there. I love reading a book and associating it with real life and learning even more of a topic previously explored. It makes the reading so much more fun! This read was that for me. I will definitely be looking for Lisa See books my next library trip. I can’t wait to see what else she has written. Watch for this book in March. Pick it up, brew some tea and enjoy!

Peace.
