George!

We love Curious George in this house! We have many many books, movies and the stuffed monkey in our collection. Most recently I discovered a non-fiction book about the Reys, Margaret and H.A. the creators of Curious George amongst others.  It’s titled “The Journey That Saved Curious George”.

In 1940, Hans and Margret Rey fled their Paris home as the German army advanced. They began their harrowing journey on bicycles, pedaling to Southern France with children’s book manuscripts among their few possessions.  The were Jewish. They were in danger from the Nazi regime and they fled. It was so very interesting to read this book and see their story told in children’s book format. You could read this with any child second grade up in my opinion, but the library association suggests fourth grade and up. Read it with your child. It’s a wonderful learning and teaching moment. Look what would have been lost………

Peace.
