Good Girls Revolt and The Women’s March

I finished this book the night before THE WOMEN’S MARCH. Fitting I think. I learned a lot of lessons reading this book. This is the story of women who wanted to be journalist, be paid what men were paid, and have the same rights as their fellow co-workers at Newsweek magazine and the lawsuit they filed to change things there. I first got interested in the  book by watching the series on Amazon. Unfortunately it was canceled after one season which is a shame.  I wanted to learn more about this landmark case so I took the book out of the library.

Things I learned. I learned that not all the women dared to fight for the right to be treated equal. I learned that not all the women were brave or sure, but did it anyway. Some women had no fear. Some women did not use the opportunity even though it was eventually given to them.  BUT the women who did file despite FEAR, gave ALL women a gift, and they kept fighting for the cause amidst all kinds of backlash. This is a good lesson.

Yesterdays marches were all peaceful. We did not know that heading out. I personally did not encounter as much hate as I thought we would and NONE of it was at the march itself.

It’s okay to be afraid. It’s in me to speak up and rise up. I met the youngest survivor of the Holocaust once and I’ll never forget her telling me don’t you ever be silent, promise me you’ll never be silent… well Tova I was not silent  and I will not be going forward .Read the book. You’ll be inspired. A group of women can make a huge difference.

Peace.
