Woman of God

I do not usually read James Patterson. If I read his books they are his “off” books, rumored to be the books he writes for his wife. Sunday’s at Tiffany’s and Suzanne’s Diary for Nicholas are two of these that I read and I really enjoyed. So when my daughter brought home for me Woman of God, I decided to give it a read after being reassured that this wasn’t a ‘typical’ book of his.

OH MY WORD. This book breaks your heart, stops you in your tracks. Your heart bleeds for the people in the story, because although this is a work of fiction, the facts are that the people in the Sudan do suffer this way. Doctors like the main character in this book,  from the United States of America, this country, go all over the world to help in places of extreme danger, and they die. People rise up to fight for these people, who are being killed and persecuted, all over the world people come to aid in the fight, and they see heartbreak and death and no end in sight.  This book is also about the Catholic faith and the main characters struggle with it,  her conviction and what she feels called to do, and the backlash. It hit close to home for me. It is also about women in the church.  Her calling out to God and her relationship with him was so real it was hard to believe that this was not a real persons memoir, that it is a work of fiction. I could not put this book down. It spoke to me on so many levels. Also on my mind was the refugees who flee this kind of war and tyranny. How mind-blowing horrendous it would be to try to protect your children in this kind of hell. The fact that you could not have empathy for this always amazes me.

I highly recommend reading this book.
