The War That Saved My Life

This is a very sweet book. The story is a good original take on disability and parental abuse. Ada who is nine or ten, and has a twisted foot, makes a wonderful example of fighting for yourself. The fact that she taught herself to read gave me huge warm fuzzies. The will of this little girl in the story is an amazing example of what you can accomplish as a child. One can see why it is a Newberry Honor Book.

This book is appropriately ranked at 4-6 grade. However any age after a current fourth grader would enjoy this read.

Peace.
