Piecing Me Together by Renee Watson

I always check the NEW book shelf at the library when I’m picking up my holds and check it against pictures on my phone of books that I want to read. This one was there and I was so thrilled. Recently the teen and YA books I have read have been so much better than others. More real.
Piecing Me Together was so much more than I thought it would be. Although reading Jaqueline Woodson’s opinion on the back sold it (I love her books and have read them ALL) . Jade, the girl in the story, voice is so clear in this narrative. The story has you look at growing up in a different light, and makes you take a hard look, for me, at prejudices that we don’t always see, it makes you aware of things we all need to work on. Jade’s story is beautiful, one that will stay with me for a long while. Her tenacity, strong will and artist gifts remind me of my daughter. I will be recommending this book to a great many people young and old. I will also be looking up the rest of this authors books to read and share. Amazing find!

It’s a fast read. Check it out! Enjoy.

Peace.
