Swing Time

I received this ARC (Advanced Readers Copy) of this book quite early, several months before the book was released. I have never read this author before, and instantly fell into her rhythm of story telling.  I think a lot of us have people from our beginnings that fall away or chose different paths, sometime to reappear, sometimes not, sometimes back and forth in times of your life. Sometimes with explanation, some not. This book was a reminder of that for me. Women friendships and relationships are complicated for some, race, socioeconomic reasons, and all other human emotions like love, expectation, envy, hatred, regret….all come into play in season or lifetime of a friendship.

I’ve talked to people who either didn’t get the book, or wanted more detail. For me, the book was a dance, swinging back and forth, I don’t think we needed all the details some people think are missing in this book. I think you are to interpret and think for yourself about the journey. Just read the words. Don’t try to figure out things that aren’t mentioned.  I really enjoyed the story.

When I received this again as a BOTM (Book of the Month Club) in hardback, I did re-read it. Some of the passages and the language are really beautiful.

Take a chance and have a read.
