A Night Divided by Jennifer A. Nielsen

I don’t remember the Berlin Wall going up, but I sure remember it coming down. All the coverage of the news stories of families being reunited again after decades. The stories of people escaping to freedom before the wall came down, just was so incomprehensible to me.

This story is told from a girls perspective from age eight to twelve. It is fascinating traveling back in time. Realizing how brave these folks were. How devastating to wake up to be walled in and walled off from loved ones, overnight.

Good book for fifth grade and up. Teaching about this time in history much easier if you can relate to the character.

This was my personal pick to send on for my Traveling Book Club, so it will be heading out tomorrow. Wonderful read. I learned a little more about that time and even found myself in history books reading about The Berlin Wall again.

Peace.
