Classics & a Good Meal

Yesterday afternoon I headed out with 64 books, 4 crock pots full of food  that I “made with love”, cookies, brownies, and bread to a local youth building where community kids 6th-12th grade come to hang out. A couple of them needed classic books for school, but even more took the classic reads and The Diary of Anne Frank because THEY WANTED TO READ them. Anne Frank isn’t taught in the school here…yes this disturbs me greatly! Most of the rest of the books went as well, and at the very least we all talked about books, what each book was about and instilled how important we thought it was that they read. The excitement they had just makes my heart smile. Knowing they have a full belly full of food they enjoyed eating is the best gift ever. Wonderful way to kick off Spring Break! For those who are worried that kids are not reading or don’t like books, I have not seen this to be true. There are a few who just will not read, however most of them look at books as a luxury item and are so excited to be able to own one. The fact that the book may be used or an old library book never even bothers them. The fact that they get to KEEP it is all that matters to them.

Peace.
