I have finished this gem. What a fascinating book. The descriptive nature of this book is just amazing. I loved it! The clothing worn and the food made, the feelings these things invoked made you feel like you were inside this book in the story. Wonderful narrative of the history of the game of Bridge; the social aspect of the game and how it related to Jewish culture, was all so interesting and entertaining to read. In our culture the old are not as respected as they should be. We could learn so very much from our elders if we only stop, look, listen, spend time, question…….. This is a lesson learned while reading this book. After all they’ve seen decades of history and their perspective is going to be so very different from ours. I have found that it is usually comforting to hear the stories from the older generation, of what they have lived through. Beautiful mother daughter story told as well. I highly recommend reading this.
