Coffee: my life blood

Book: GONE WITH THE WIND

My book friends at Litsy are doing a read a long with Gone With The Wind. Although I have summer reading plans and have read Gone With The Wind before, it reminded me that I had been given my Grandmother’s copy of this book.  Since I have not read this book in 28 years, I decided to reread it, in the morning, in very small bits, along with my coffee. A little hug from my much-loved Grandma who I’ve been missing recently…. I noticed the copyright date of 1938. My Grandma was not yet married and in her 20s and working at the time. So her maiden name and address that are stamped in the front cover are intriguing to me. I want to go find the house she lived in. I do recall her speaking of the house mentioned, but I don’t believe I was ever there. I was very fortunate that my Grandma lived until I was in my 40s. A gift not afforded to many people I know. She saw me through some very hard times and as a teenager she was always my champion, always boosting my self-esteem. I never doubted her love for me once. That is something I cannot say about too many people in my life. So to have this book, an object of something I dearly love, reading, is a nice way to start my day. Comfort and contentment, affecting my overall well-being: Hygge.

I am not very far in reading the book and a few things are striking me. One, I still don’t like Scarlett! Two, I forgot how offensive the language can be regarding race. It is appropriate to the time, etc. It’s just that you don’t read this kind of language that much anymore. Caught me off guard. Thirdly, I still enjoy the enormous detailed descriptions of the settings and the wardrobes, and the history taking place. Fourth, Scarlett is really more annoying to me now than when I was in my twenties. Ha.

Happy reading fellow read a long Littens.

If you’ve never read Gone With The Wind, it is a classic worth reading. Reading it in small doses is really relaxing.

Peace.
