Oh how we love the pace of summer! Monday we visited the bookmobile and traded for some lovely books.
YAY THE BUS HAS ARRIVED!
My book HAUL!
My child’s book HAUL!
Much fun! Beautiful day for a walk and bike ride on Monday here.
Yesterday we delivered books to my son’s former teacher for her classroom and her Heidi collection. Children in her grade read Heidi every year. We found other books by Johanna Spyri, as well as some other classics for her classroom library. She was thrilled, as were we to give them to her.
Pictured are the Heidi and Spyri books.
It’s always fun to find books for others!
We continued on our day by heading over to our youth building for my cooking class and serving kids lunch for the 6th through 12th graders that show up. Every Wednesday this summer I am teaching a little cooking, talking about books and helping kids read their summer reading, along with just hanging out and talking. It’s so much fun. Good for the soul! The boys are especially excited to help and learn how to make things, so much to the point that I am now going to make little recipe books so that they can make the dishes at home.
When these kids graduate I always give my two favorite books: The Diary of Anne Frank and Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, unless the request another classic or simply just don’t want to read (let’s pause for how sad that statement is……….) At any rate a voracious reader, and recent graduate stopped yesterday to pick up her books! I hope she enjoys them both! I think she will!
“Trash” soup, Caesar salad with homemade dressing and freshly grated parmesan cheese, garlic toast, veggies and dip, later for dessert homemade whipping cream and fresh strawberries!
YUM!
Which leads me to today……dishes, laundry, making banana bread and starting BOOK SIX!!! The Penderwicks ! I am very excited to start this series!
This series of modern classics about the charming Penderwick family from National Book Award winner and New York Times bestseller Jeanne Birdsall is perfect for fans of Noel Streatfeild and Edward Eager. Over one million copies sold, now with a bright new look!
This summer the Penderwick sisters have a wonderful surprise: a holiday on the grounds of a beautiful estate called Arundel. Soon they are busy discovering the summertime magic of Arundel’s sprawling gardens, treasure-filled attic, tame rabbits, and the cook who makes the best gingerbread in Massachusetts. But the best discovery of all is Jeffrey Tifton, son of Arundel’s owner, who quickly proves to be the perfect companion for their adventures.
Deliciously nostalgic and quaintly witty, this is a story as breezy and carefree as a summer day.
Summer time is the best! I am personally not a fan of the weather, but the slower pace and schedule, I absolutely love.
Hope you are getting some summer reading done!
Peace.
