Author Visit

It’s always interesting for me to hear authors speak. It’s fun to hear their process, but also it’s very interesting to hear how they came to become a writer. Such was the case Monday night as I went with my best bibliophile friend and others to our public library to hear Lynn Austin speak. I have read almost all of her books. The book she was promoting, Waves Of Mercy, I have yet to read. Her novel Eve’s Daughters is my favorite. I have reread it a few times, and my copy is well-loved. Lynn’s series on Hezekiah called The Chronicles of the Kings was read at a very low time in my life. I read those books right along with the Bible passages related to the story and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I do not read Christian Fiction very often, in all honesty it usually leaves me cold. This genre, for me, is typically way to “smultzy” saccharine sweet, happy endings or makes women sound like such an inferior being that I can’t take it. IF I am going to read a book by a Christian author it is typically nonfiction, as is most of my reading. It’s the realist in me. (Or it’s the liberal progressive feminist!)

I love historical fiction, Lynn does a very good job in her research and relating it to the characters in the story.  I find her books are true to life, non-preachy and I always gleen a piece of knowledge about my own faith and journey through reading her novels. It is fun to see my friends and acquaintances find a new author to read.  Lynn’s talk was very good and I plan to read her newest book that I picked up and had her sign this fall, with a book club group.

Psalm 115:1

Not to us, Lord, not to us
but to your name be the glory,
because of your love and faithfulness.

Peace.
