Listening to the narrative of Roxane’s voice was like listening to one of my friends. Such an honest smart book. She made me think and revisit the way I am handling my own personal privilege. It was a good ‘checkup’ for me. I loved reading her opinions on everything and am excited to get her newest book Hunger.
I have always said we should live in the grey area, stay away from absolutes of black and white. That’s how I felt Roxane’s voice was saying, live in the grey. I am a feminist but not what some people would consider a feminist, so reading this book was a comfort, insightful and so much fun to read. I also am a lover of the game of scrabble, so it was fun to see her mention that! This book is a good book to read in bits, if you have no time to read. It was my ‘take a long’ book on my travels with me in my book sleeve. Reading this way was fun. I got to visit a ‘friend’ while waiting for a freight train (TWENTY MINUTES), waiting for the grocery store to open as I arrived ten minutes early…..an so on. Soon enough it will be reading time in the parent drop off pick up line, but we certainly don’t want to think about that!
Peace.
