My 11 year old son’s read-a-long in his class at school has been Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. During the reading of it he would remind me to not spoil it for him by telling him any parts of it. He just finished it up, and found me watching the movie this week and asked what my favorite part of the book was. I told him when Jo finished her book and actually wrote from her heart, and when Jo cut her hair. The best part for him, that he couldn’t believe, was when Amy burned Jo’s book and they had a big fight, but then made up. He can not fathom acting like this with his sister. I tried to explain that with his sister being 16 plus years older than him that he never really had to share me or live in the same house. All he remembers is moving her to college, which he did not like, and her summers home. In actuality she has not lived home since she left for college when he was a toddler. When I told him it would be like living with his nephew who is three years old everyday he then understood. “OH NO MOM” “I do NOT want that to happen” he proclaimed. I think it is great fun that his class read this aloud together daily, and love all the classic reading he does at his school. I informed him of all the other books he could read by Alcott and he informed me that was for summer. We have enough of a reading schedule for now. Which I had to agree, I think this will be a fun summer reading adventure! I’m suggesting that we start with Little Men.
Peace.
