An American Marriage
Oh this book. It broke my heart. No one won. There really are no winners. However I can say at least one person truly did have peace in the end. The rest, did not. Even the person who was at peace, his life was forever changed and damaged. Wrongful incarcerations happen daily. By sick numbers. Generally because of an unjust court system, corruption and mainly due to the color of ones skin, ability to afford good representation, and poverty. It breaks my heart and makes me sick. This story AN American Marriage portrays that, but it also shows raw truth and emotion to relationships, marriage. What happens to ALL the people surrounding the person who is incarcerated? How many lives are ruined, forever, forever. The voices of all the people in the story were so very messy raw filled with emotion you were immediately sucked into the story and on someone’s side. Opinions varied by those of us who read this together as a buddy read. Mostly depending on our own life experiences, our belief systems and our knowledge of the justice systems many flaws. Massively excellent read. I highly recommend it.
