As we BuddyRead our BOTM

The English Wife our February read.

Heading into week three…….

Our discussion questions from last Sunday’s discussion:

Several passages about Annabelle/Georgie are quite enlightening “The worst of her crime was to be 17 and foolish” “Only on the wrong side of the blanket” Bay says “ I like you because you’re you. You’re not afraid to say what you mean, there’s no pretense you’re the truest person I have ever met…my compass my fixed star”
What do you make of her? Like, loathe, mystery or kindred spirit ???

In The Twelfth Night Orsino, as seen in the play, is a very passionate man. Being in love with the idea of love, he sees Olivia and immediately thinks up a fantasy, convincing himself any passion inside him is only for her. But when his page boy “Cesario” begins to work with him, he becomes fond of the boy, which is one reason to explain why he is easily able to switch his love from Olivia to Viola (Cesario) in the end. Bay believes Orsino must have called Viola Cesario even after she abandoned her britches. Is this argument for himself or Annabelle/Georgie?

Did you find it interesting Bay says he never slept with a woman instead of saying I’ve never slept with anyone “It will be an experiment” he says to Georgie/Annabelle “for both of us you see, I’ve never …I’ve never lain with a woman”

Bay called Annabelle/Georgie “George my George” on page 105 he also upon his death to Janie says “George” is this weaving a clue for us???

What IS THE DEAL between Anne and Bay?!

What were your thoughts at the end of this reading ?

It’s been interesting reading this book. A lot of the history I know. The “Dutch way of life” I know whether I want to or not: living in a predominantly Dutch community, in a town founded by the Dutch it’s all around me.
The most fun for me reading this book has been ALL the Shakespeare and classical literature references! I posted about this on my instagram bookstagram and THE AUTHOR answered me!! OHMYWORD.

OHMYGOODNESS!!!! I AM FANGIRLING!!!

Today I am reading and working on our next section and it’s questions for Sunday. I can not wait. The slow reading and discussing of books has been just a pure joy for me.

Reading On!!
