BOTM MARCH

The tale of three very strong independent women in a favorite fairytale retelling was an amazing thing to read. The many legends, myths, folklore, fables, Bibles stories, The Torah, Judaism, Christianity, Russian and Polish Fairytales, Grimms Fairytales, Rumpelstiltskin, and so much more had me picking up other books and reading them while reading this. The research and remembrance of all these things was an amazing way to spend each week making up the questions and discussing them on Sunday afternoons. I was very grateful to have so much back knowledge to catch all the references in this book. The power of the women saving their people was the best part of this book for me. I made it through the WHOLE BOOK without realizing I was using my ESTHER bookmark. Esther, who saves her people while in exile, as a Jew. One of the many back stories in this book as Miryem is Jewish. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. It was a little bit of work to do research, it felt like a school assignment, however it was so thoroughly enjoyable and I learned so much. I will be looking for her other book Uprooted. I have always loved dark fairytales as they seemed more real and true to life for me. This book reminded me of that love. I am grateful.
