Evelyn Hugo

BOTM BUDDY READ SEPTEMBER

“You wonder what it must be like to be a man, to be so confident that the final say is yours.”

Finally a book that took zero effort to enjoy and tear apart for questions for our Sunday discussions. I very much enjoyed this book. Reading a hundred pages a time gives you time to take in more than if you were devouring the book. I think that you catch more undertones of the story, and pay attention closer to the wording and quotes of the characters.

I personally love reading about old Hollywood so this book was another level of fun for me. Reading about a hugely complicated and in your face real character such as Evelyn is always a plus for me. I adored the character and will miss reading about her every week as I have this past month. I will be putting this on my top 19 for 2019 list for sure as it had so many layers and relatable subjects to my own life and lives of those I love, along with just being an over all wonderful thing to read. A lighter read with deep meaning. I cried and yelled and laughed while reading. Always a win for me. So much good in this book. So many layers.

“I’m under absolutely no obligation to make sense to you.”

“It’s always been fascinating to me how things can be simultaneously true and false, how people can be good and bad all in one, how someone can love you in a way that is beautifully selfless while serving themselves ruthlessly.”

“Heartbreak is a loss. Divorce is a piece of paper.”

“People are messy, and love can be ugly. I’m inclined to always err on the side of compassion.”
