Fantine was perhaps in those shadows.

The Universe reduced to a single being, a single being expanding to encompass God, that is love.
Love is the Angels’ greeting to the stars.
How sad the soul is, when sad for love’s sake.
What emptiness in the absence of the person who fills the world with their sole being!oh!how true it is that the beloved becomes God. It would be understandable if God were jealous, had not the Almighty Father obviously made creation for the soul and the soul for love.
God is behind everything, but everything hides God. Things are black, human beings are opaque. To love someone is to make them transparent.

Love partakes of the soul itself. It is of the same nature. A divine spark like the soul, it is likewise incorruptible, indivisible, imperishable. It is a burning flame with in us, immortal and infinite, which nothing can contain and nothing can extinguish.

God can add nothing to happiness of those who love, other than to give them everlastingness. After a lifetime of love-an eternity of love, that is indeed to increase. But to increase in its actual intensity, the ineffable bliss that love already imparts to the soul in this world is impossible, even to God. God is the plentitude of heaven. Love is the plentitude of man.

You look at a star for two reasons, because it is bright and because it is impenetrable. You have beside you a sweeter radiance and a greater mystery: WOMAN.

If you are a stone, be a lodestone. If you are a plant, be a sensitive one. If you are a human, be LOVE.

You who suffer because you love, love yet more. to die of love is to live by love.

Be in love. A transfiguration of starry darkness is implicit in the torture. There is ecstacy in the agony.

“OH YES” she said. “How well ‘i recognise it all. It’s everything I’d read in his eyes.”

My heart is bursting, I couldn’t go on living the way I was, I had to come.

One kiss was all.

Both trembled, an gazed at each other in the shadows, their eyes sparkling.

When they finished, when they had told each other everything, she laid her head on his shoulder and asked him, “What’s your name?”

What is slang? It is both a nation and its linguistic expression. It is thieving in its two guises: people and language.

Man is not a circle with a single centre. He is an ellipse with two focal points: one actions, the other ideas.

Revolutionary awareness is moral awareness.

Whoever votes, rules.

The two duties: To Watch and to HOPE.

Now, what we want is no death-that of the body, as late as possible, that of the soul, never.

All is LIGHT.

Of all the things that God has made, the human heart is the one that sheds the most light and alas! the most darkness.

God willed that the love Cosette encountered was a love that saves.

At that stage of love, a stage when sensuality it totally silenced by the all-powerfulness of ecstacy.

It touched on the unknown, the flesh, before which that great innocent love recoiled with a kind of sacred terror.

To pay compliments to to the woman you love is the first stage in caressing her, a tentative half daring.

Two lovers seclude themselves in the evening, in the twilight, where they cannot be seen, with the birds and the roses; they bewitch each other in the darkness, their hearts in their eyes, they murmur they whisper, while the vast movements of the stars fill the infinite.

For our part, we reject that too broad and consequently too convenient a term, ‘rioting’. We distinguish between one popular movement and another. We do not ask ourselves whether a riot costs as much as battle. In the first place, why a battle? Here the question of war arises. Is was less dreadful than the disaster of an uprising. And besides, are all uprisings disasters? .(…………………..) We are in search of the CAUSE.

There is a riot and there is insurrection. These are two kinds of anger. One is unjustified, the other justified. In democratic states, which alone are based on justice, it sometimes happens that a minority usurps power. Then the whole community rises up and the necessary vindication of its rights may go as far as the taking-up of arms.

SOMETIMES THE PEOPLE PERVERTS LOYALTY TO ITSELF.

Tyranny puts the writer under constraint of diametric constractions, which create increased strength. Ciceronian rhetoric, barely adequate against Veres, would be ineffectual against Caligula. The less rounded the phrase the harder it hits.

The integrity of a great heart, condensed into justice and truth is devastating.

….there is a low-class deformity corresponding to the ugliness of the tyrant.

In the most common cases riot results from a physical fact: insurrection is always a moral phenomenon.

All protest, even the most legitimate, begin with the same unrest. Before rightfulness emerges, there is a foaming and a tumult.

Whatever today might be, tomorrow brings peace.

A third of Paris was controlled by the rioters.

How will it all end?

Can’t rest without challenging authority.

A huge month of so many things the same in this book as are happening here in the USA. Just blows your mind.
