CHILE –
The traditional music of Chile is a combination of Spanish and indigenous influences. The cueca is the national dance of Chile. Violeta Parra (1917-1967), a popular folk singer-songwriter and musicologist played an essential role in Chilean music in the 20th century.
Pablo Neruda has long been a favorite of mine. Neruda became known as a poet when he was 13 years old and wrote in a variety of styles, including surrealist poems, historical epics, political manifestos, a prose autobiography, and passionate love poems such as the ones in his collection Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair. Neruda was a Chilean poet-diplomat and politician who won the 1971 Nobel Prize in Literature.
Coffee: Chile’s specialty coffee scene is growing at a remarkable pace. They’re seeing new coffee shops open, new roasteries being established, and meeting new baristas with fresh ideas. However, research I’ve been able to access says Nescafé and instant coffee also have a stronghold on the general populations’ coffee tastes; about 90% of the population still drinks predominantly instant coffee.
I’ve little knowledge of Chile, I look forward to learning more.
Library stack of books and some Pinterest recipes and off I go to learn……….
